Sightseeing Around KOLAKHAM

Kolakham is located on the fringe of Neora Valley forest. Enthusiasts people can enjoy nature trail along the picturesque green forest with a variety of birds and flora including some rare species of wild life. Tourists can also go for a day trip to Lava, Rishop and Charkol.

Neora Valley Forest: A jungle safari by Jeep and trek inside the forest is a wonderful experience. This trip is a must to all nature lovers and bird watchers. The trips through deep jungle , full of tropical forest and most rare birds will make this trip memorable one. More adventurous people can go go for a Rachela Trek towards the Aritar.

Changi Falls: Changey falls or Changey Changi just 6 kilometers vehicle drive and 6 kilometer walk down through courteously built staircases and rest hut takes you to the most beautiful falls in the deep forest of Darjeeling Hills. It is the only falls in the deep forest which can be reached by tourists by jeep ride and a walk down to around 250 stairs. In the deep forest of Neora Valley forest with sounds of rare tropical birds like Wagtail, Minivet and others make your journey a memorable one.

Lava: Lava is a small town in Darjeeling district and 10 km from Kolakham. A visit to the Lava Monastery and Neora valley Interpretation center offers a quick look at the vastness of nature's prosperity.

Rishyap: The picturesque Rishop offers a splendid view of snow-capped Mt Kanchenjunga along with Mt Kabroo, Mt Kharg Mt Pandim, Mt Simvo and Mt Rathung.

Charkhole: Charkhole is a great place for tourists and gives an excellent view of Mt Kanchenjunga and other peaks from a table top mountain. It is new hotspot nature resort in this region and around 32 km from Kolakham.

Climate: Summer around 5-20° C,winter around 0-8° C

Altitude: 6,500 ft

Clothing & Luggage: Travel as light as possible with least minimum clothes, toiletries and other essential commodities & as these areas is cold in winter it is advisable to carry warm woolen clothes, woolen mittens, gloves, cap etc. During the month of Dec to Feb, Darjeeling is very cold and often experiences heavy snowfall. Please carry heavy woolen garments during winter.

Food and Drink: Drink only bottled water. Please carry your water from Lava, Kalimpong or Siliguri. Since this area doesn’t have any single shop, it is always advisable to carry dry foods like biscuits, chips, dry fruits, fruits etc. Foreign Liquors / Alcohols are not also available in Kolakham.

Health Facility & Health Precautions: It is advisable to carry specific medicines as there are no pharmacy shops in Kolakham. Always carry a kit of the basic emergency medicines you might need for diarrhea, fever etc, band aids and an antiseptic ointment. The nearest health facility /medicine shop is available at Lava.

Card Payment & ATM: Credit/Debit Card is not accepted in Kolakham. In Kolakham there is also no ATM. Please carry cash for all your transactions.

Telephone / Mobile phones: All major mobile operator covers Kolakham. However, in many occasions signals are not strong enough. It is advisable to carry mobiles phones from two different mobile service providers.

Kolakham is a small village in Neora Valley National Park

Kolakham village, Wagtail is located down the Lava and can be reached driving through ten KM in the gravel road. The scenic beauty of the road is real visual pleasure as the road is curved through the dense and lash green tropical and alpine trees.
